Techne Law represents people, families, and businesses facing consequential legal problems throughout Oregon. Why Techne?
Techne comes from the Ancient Greek word technē: art, skill, craft, the learned ability to make or do something well. The word reaches back to the Proto-Indo-European root *teks-, meaning to weave or fabricate. That root gave rise to words connected with making and building, and it still survives in English words such as text, textile, architect, technical, and technology. The oldest image is wonderfully physical: separate strands or pieces, worked by human skill into a structure that did not exist before.
Ancient Greek also gives us epistēmē, the word most often translated as knowledge. The Greeks did not draw a clean modern wall between “theory” and “practice,” and technē itself involved knowledge. But the distinction points toward something important. Knowledge tells us what is true or what can be known. Techne is the trained human capacity to take what is known, the materials actually in front of us, and a purpose, and make something from them. Aristotle used the builder as an example: the builder holds the form of the house in mind, knows how to build, and then brings that form into the material world.
That is close to what the name means to us. Lawyers do not get to invent reality. We do not create the facts, rewrite the past, or choose truth by preference. We receive the world as it is: people, events, documents, law, evidence, deadlines, risks, motives, contradictions, and unknowns. We work to discover and test what is true. Then comes the craft. Judgment, practiced skill, investigation, strategy, teamwork, timing, writing, examination, negotiation, and persuasion take those pieces and make them coherent and useful. Knowledge matters. Techne is what makes knowledge effective in the world.

Legal problems rarely arrive as organized files. They arrive as fear, accusations, documents, text messages, witnesses, deadlines, money, relationships, bad facts, partial facts, competing stories, and unanswered questions. Our first job is to receive that chaos and turn it into something ordered, coherent, and usable.
We seek the truth. We separate claims from proof. We identify what is known, what is disputed, and what still needs to be found. We define the client’s lawful objective and build backward from the hearing, negotiation, deposition, trial, or other moment of consequence.
Order is not enough. Truth has to become useful. In a legal case, that means evidence, witnesses, research, motions, negotiation, timing, credibility, story, preparation, and persuasion directed toward a lawful result. That is the method behind the line: Order out of chaos. Truth into force.
Built around a team, not one lawyer
Techne Law is built to make hard-won legal judgment institutional instead of leaving it trapped in one person’s head. Lawyers, investigators, case managers, client guides, and support professionals work around a common objective. Systems keep facts, deadlines, risks, decisions, and work visible so people can spend their attention where judgment matters most.
The goal is not activity for activity’s sake. It is disciplined preparation that produces something useful at the moment a judge, jury, opposing party, agency, or client must make a consequential decision. What one case teaches should improve the way the next case is handled.

Techne Law uses modern technology and AI-assisted systems to help retrieve, organize, compare, test, draft, and preserve working knowledge. AI does not decide the case. Lawyers verify the work, exercise professional judgment, counsel the client, make strategic decisions, approve what is used, and remain responsible for the representation.
Technology is a force multiplier. Human judgment stays in command.
Two battles
A serious legal case creates two battles. One battle is the legal case. The other is the person who must survive it. A case can threaten freedom, family, money, reputation, livelihood, identity, and peace of mind long before a final decision arrives.
We fight the legal case. We also remember that a human being has to live through it. Our role as counselors at law is to tell the truth, make the road visible, preserve choices, prepare the client for what is coming, and fight the legal battle without losing sight of the person living through it.
What Techne Law does

Record relief and post-conviction matters. Select matters involving record restoration, post-conviction issues, and related relief.
Select plaintiff matters. Select civil claims where the firm’s trial, investigation, and litigation methods fit the problem.
Founded by Mike Arnold
Mike Arnold founded Techne Law to build an enduring law firm around the team, systems, methods, and judgment developed through years of trial and complex litigation practice. The goal is not to make every lawyer think exactly like Mike. It is to make the reasoning visible, train judgment, preserve what experience teaches, and build a team capable of exercising that judgment when it matters.
